Acqua della Serpa Bianco, Amphora, Anna Santi, Italy
Anne-Santi is a cool Umbrian natural wine producer!
Francesco Annesanti says that his soul is in his wine! He naturally farms and vinifies in a minimalist manner by himself; he hand bottles, labels and waxes the bottle tops himself. He personally designed all of his labels and even made the desk that he uses.
Francesco’s Cantina is off the beaten path in a rural part of Umbria, where vines are not typically planted. He is a true artist, creating harmonious expressions of old vine Trebbiano Spoletino, Malvasia and Grechetto, alongside non-indigenous varieties such as Pinot Noir and Merlot. His rarest wines are fermented in terracotta amphora and aged in glass demijohn, with bottle counts numbering in the hundreds for each vintage.
Acqua della Serpa translates to “Water of the Snake” under 1,000 bottles produced in 2019. Predominately Trebbiano Spoletino, Grechetto and Malvasia; fermented in terracotta amphora on a portion of the skins for 10 months then racked to glass demijohn for 3 months. A savoury, gastronomic wine with flavours of flowers and white fruit - A wine to savour and contemplate.
