Xavier, Vins d’ Experts, 2009, Chateauneuf-du-Pape
In our opinion true Chateauneuf-du-Pape is a wine that needs time to develop. Too often we see young vintages in the supermarkets that are just not a fair representation on what the special wines of this region should be about. That's why we are excited to have found two small parcels of CNDP that represent incredible value.
But why is this famous wine so sought after?
Chateauneuf-du-Pape is one of the most recognised fine wine regions in the world. This is mainly down to it being the first 'appellation' in France (geographically protected area which defines the rules and regulations that producers have to adhere to) - setting the blueprint for the rest of Europe and the world.
For 15 years, winemaker Xavier built an international reputation for helping with the development of the most prestigious wines of the Rhone, including Chateauneuf-du-Pape. In 2002, he started to develop his own wines, signed “Xavier”. We are very fortunate to find this small parcel from 2009 - a year that is widely considered as one of the best in Southern France. This wine is in it’s drinking window right now and has all the flavours and complexity you want from this famous region.
