La Jurisdicción Godello, Spain

Godello had a close brush with extinction in the 20th Century, with only a few hundred of its vines remaining by the 1970s. Thanks to a project to rescue this grape variety led by Horacio Fernández and Luis Hidalgos, there are now more than 1000 hectares (2471 acres) of Godello vines in its supposed native home of Galicia and it is more popular than ever. We love Albariño and grown right (like here) it can produce a truly wonderful white. Sourced entirely from family vineyards from the town of Villalibre de la Jurisdiccion, using grapes selected from north facing slopes, on fine slate soil. Stainless steel fermentation at cool temperatures and aged on fine less for 6 months in used French Oak.  We have been lucky enough to try a number of Godello’s throughout our time in the industry and this a real winner. It’s rustic and takes a bit of thinking about but we think it’s great.
